Dead Man's Body Pays Off
Charles Zigler who was 67 years old, died in a chair at 71 year old Linda Chase's house.
He was her house mate and boyfriend at the time, and they lived in southern Michigan.
She never reported his death but did keep on cashing his pension and social-security checks even after he had died. The checks amounted up to $28,000.00.
Forger?
She is now charged with forgery only and not charged with not reporting his death or proper disposal of his body etc..
Naughty old gal!
She had committed the forgery supposedly since his death in December of the year 2010.
That ends up being about a year and a half plus part of a month before her arrest.
Jail time for her?
Charles Zigler's family wants her to go to jail for the crime.
Local Michigan police had to enter her home after his relatives called them to complain that they couldn't get in touch with him.
The judge who saw her at court 3 weeks after police found the body let her go, with a warning to show up for future court appearances.
"I can't even walk, why would I run".
Was her reply to the judge at court. She at the time still needed an attorney for counsel.
Police believe that he died of natural causes in December of 2010, but she said that it was just last year that he died.
The case will continue and either the situation will resolve itself with her being mentally unstable or not, we will have to wait and see how it works out.
